Our Approach

In functional medicine the body is examined to identify what is causing a breakdown of health. Once the root cause of a person’s health condition is identified it can usually be improved or corrected and health is restored. Since the body is a natural system, there usually are natural solutions to correct most health problems.  The key is to find out what is going wrong with a person’s physiology and fix it.

In traditional medical care, health conditions are seen as isolated problems. Most medical doctors are specialists and don’t look at the connection between different systems of the body and health problems.  These isolated problems are usually treated separately. Usually drugs or surgery are used to suppress normal body functions and symptoms rather than correcting problems.

The reason you may not feel your best is because you’ve developed an unhealthy lifestyle, been exposed to toxic substances or have undergone stress and trauma. Poor diet, stress, environmental and chemical toxins, and lack of exercise, all take a toll on your natural defenses. For awhile, your body is able to cope, and then the body starts to breakdown.  These puzzling symptoms may be an early warning that one or more of your body’s systems are malfunctioning.

Just like the red warning light in your car that flashes when there is a problem with your engine, a symptom is a signal telling you that an underlying health problem needs to be corrected.  Treating a symptom without uncovering the real cause is like placing a piece of black tape over the blinking red warning light. Ignoring the cause of the red warning light can lead to an engine breakdown.  Unfortunately, our bodies can’t be overhauled or replaced like an engine. Ignoring these chronic symptoms can eventually lead to a serious illness.
